Background playback
On
Keeps your own local files playing when ARC is in the background or the phone locks, with play, pause and skip on the lock screen. This browser has no screen wake lock, so the screen still sleeps — audio continues.
A web app can't keep playing once the browser itself is fully closed or swiped away — that needs the native app. Apple Music playback is handled by Apple's own player and follows its background rules, not ARC's.

Presets
These faders are a real Web Audio filter chain on the audio ARC decodes itself — your own files. Apple Music streams are rendered by the protected platform player, which exposes no insert point, so the EQ cannot touch them. A soft limiter sits after the chain so boosts don't clip.

Streaming catalogues are protected, so a track can be playable without being analyzable. ARC keeps those two things separate: it will plan a transition it can describe, then degrade it honestly to whatever the source can actually perform.
